Rooney, Rev.
James Word has been received here that Rev. James B. Rooney, L.L.D., died at his home in Newark, N.J., very suddenly Monday morning. For several years past he had been Chaplain at Seton Hall, a boy’s school. Father Rooney was formerly pastor at Zaleski, Ohio, and came to Shawnee as successor to Rev. Thomas J. Horan. Pastor of St. Mary’s Church. During his pastorate here Father Rooney made vast improvements on the church. At his request, in order that he might be near his relatives, he was transferred to a parish in the east. He was succeeded as pastor of St. Mary’s church by Rev. Father L.J. Kessler. Father Rooney was the fourth pastor of St. Mary’s. He was a very pius and zealous priest, dearly beloved by all his parishioners and enjoyed the friendship and high esteem of all with whom he came in contact. Regardless of religious affiliations, those who knew him will be grieved to learn of his passing away. His toil and devotions are finished. The light of a good and noble life has flickered out. He has gone, never more to return to the altars where he served. His memory will long be cherished for the good he accomplished in this wicked, cruel old world. May his reward be Great.
