Jaynes, George

Rev. George Jaynes, age 75 year a former resident of this place, died at his home in Newark last Saturday of ailments due to his advanced age.  Funeral was held in that city Monday and interment made in the Shawnee Cemetery Monday afternoon.  The deceased is survived by his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Almeda Thomas, Mrs. Esther Ponsor, Mrs. Edna Vicker and three sons, William Clarence, Roy and Harland and a large number of other relatives, many of whom are still living in Shawnee.

Jaynes, Joseph

Joseph Jaynes, was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, on April 6, 1848 and died at Springfield, Ohio on December 3, 1934. He was married to Mattie Jordon in Kentucky, spent the major part of his sojourn in Shawnee, Ohio and the remaining few years in Springfield. The deceased was the father of eight children: Samuel, John, James, William George, Charley, Frank and Maye.  His wife and four sons Samuel, James, Charley and Frank preceded him in death.  Throughout his life Mr. Jaynes maintained a vital interest in the things pertaining to Godliness; and ardent student of the scriptures, a firm believer in future life he held membership in the Church of God and was a member of the Masonic order. The days of his pilgrimage reached beyond the scriptural fourscore at the time of departure he was aged 86 years, and 8 months.  He is survived by his three sons, John, William and George and daughter Mrs. Maye Robinette, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Fredric Ross and interment made in the Shawnee Cemetery.

Johnson, Jennie E.

Jennie E. Johnson, 79, of Saltlick Township, passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at the home of her daughter in New Straitsville. She was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Congo, the daughter of the late Mike and Mary Peters Lucas Sr. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and she raised a variety of wild animals. Surviving are daughters, Linda (Donald) Sines and Patricia Darst, both of New Straitsville; brothers, Mike Lucas Sr. and William Lucas Sr., both of Corning; a sister, Julia Johnson of South Carolina; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Julius Lucas; and a sister, Mary Varga. According to Jennie's wishes, her body was cremated and a private family memorial was held. Those wishing may make memorials to Fairhope Hospice, 1111 E. Main St., Lancaster, OH 43130. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Shawnee.

Joseph, Azar

Azar Joseph, well known here, died in a hospital in Zanesville Wednesday morning.  The deceased formerly conducted a confectionary in the room occupied by H. Ellis’ Hardware Store.

Jones, Anna Jenkins

Mr. and Mrs. John Bigrigg, Mrs. Fannie Bird, Mrs. Harry Baker, Morgan Jenkins, and Roll McLaughlin attended the funeral of Mrs. Anna Jenkins Jones in Crooksville, Sunday. The Funeral of Mrs. Anna Jenkins Jones, formerly of this place was held in Crooksville Sunday afternoon.  The deceased was well known here. She was the daughter of Mrs. Arthur Bigrigg.
